As an ardent fan of the musical stage play 'Les Misérables' and its vibrant songs, I had high hopes for this elaborate screen adaptation.

Fearless, funny, sprawling, messy, vulgar and honest: those are just a few adjectives that describe Judd Apatow’s 'This Is 40'. The film earns its stripes as a raunchy, R-rated comedy even before the main title appears onscreen.

'Jack Reacher' is ridiculous…and exciting…and funny…and cheesy. It’s also a great vehicle for Tom Cruise, even though readers of Lee Child’s best-selling novels are complaining that he doesn’t resemble the author’s description of that character.

Unlike some films that have become critics’ darlings, 'The Impossible' has no pretensions. It isn’t edgy and I don’t think it has a hidden subtext. It’s just a beautifully told, enormously moving story of a family’s experiences during and after the 2004 tsunami...

Some filmmakers invite more open-mindedness than others. As creator of 'The Sopranos' and writer of other high-quality TV shows, David Chase has earned the right to aim high in his ambitious directorial debut feature…

In 'The Hurt Locker', director Kathryn Bigelow and journalist-turned-screenwriter Mark Boal told a riveting story against the backdrop of the war-torn Middle East. In their new collaboration,' Zero Dark Thirty', they dramatize a real-life series of events, spanning nearly a decade, that are just as compelling and even more complex.

I wouldn’t call The Guilt Trip a great comedy, but I had a lot of fun watching Barbra Streisand, who effortlessly commands the screen and reminds us what a gifted, natural comedienne she is.

I have great regard for Peter Jackson and his filmmaking partners, which is why it pains me to say that I found 'The Hobbit' incredibly boring. As in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy, Jackson and his WETA team have raised the bar for visual effects and created some stunning set pieces...

'Playing for Keeps' is aimed at moviegoers who want to watch attractive people in a lightweight romantic comedy-drama.
