The Hurt Locker is one of 365 new entries in the 2011 Movie Guide and its app!

I’m pleased to announce that the iPhone app for Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide has been updated to include all material—365 new entries as well as corrections and changes—from the 2011 edition of the book. The revised app also features new graphics that support the high-resolution display of the iPhone 4 and iPad. I’m told by the folks at MobileAge, who designed and operate the application, that they’ve also made internal improvements that better support the iPhone OS. Finally, they’ve reworked the update mechanism so the app checks for—

—my newly-posted reviews every time you launch it.

I am not a high-tech person, but I am impressed with the capabilities of this app. (Even a hard-core book lover would be impressed at the speed and ease with which one can look up actors or directors’ credits.) I especially like the fact that every Friday when I post new movie reviews on this site they’re automatically uploaded for app subscribers. Our annual book has a finite deadline, but thanks to this application, people can check my reviews of brand-new films not yet incorporated into the text. What’s more, the app has quick links to poster images and more than 5,000 trailers, and with just an extra click puts any film on your Netflix queue.

If you’ve already purchased the Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide app, this update is free of charge. If you haven’t tried it out, I hope you will. The next update, sometime not too far down the road, will incorporate all additions and changes to Leonard Maltin’s Classic Movie Guide. Stay tuned!

Got my update and LOVE IT!!! It is like what I have always wanted as a supplement to the book, just a handout or file with the new entries so we can check out your ratings and reviews we have seen throughout the year. Thanks for letting them do this! Ken
