In December, I was lucky enough to receive a free HD DVD player as a freebie for attending Butt Numb A Thon. I was thrilled, and still am. But, due to the heavy duties around programming SXSW, I never actually got around to buying any HD DVDs (though, our players came with two free discs: 300 and The Bourne Supremacy). In light of this week's official news that HD DVD is dead in the water, I'm not all that bummed. Of course I'm not gonna buy any HD DVD discs now, but my HD DVD player works just great and I'm happy to have it. Would I be as fine with it, if I had splurged and picked up countless HD DVDs at Best Buy? Probably not, and for those people, I'm sorry. And for the majority of people out there who sat out the "DVD format wars" and awaited for resolution, it was apparently the right move.

You can store it with your betamax deck, your rca laser disc player, and that awesome cd player.

Matt, Apologies acccepted. Kidding. I purchased an HD-DVD the middle of last year and only bought 2 discs. The positive side.... use it for 6-12 months until Blu Ray drops in price. They upconvert your standard DVDs to BRILLIANT picture quality.

Not only did I wait for resolution, I waited for higher resolution!
