Live 8 @ Auditorium Shores

Live 8 is still underway, and the millions unable to attend the various shows around the globe have been forced to get their fix with the live simulcast on MTV and VH-1. It's been a busy day of performances, with Paul McCartney and U2 kicking things off in London with "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (and its appropriate, "It was 20 years ago today..." intro).

Old and new merge all day, with Green Day tackling Queen's "We Are The Champions" in Berlin and Maroon 5 covering Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" from Philadelphia. In London, The Who are onstage now with a reunited Pink Floyd set to perform very soon. Plus, in Philly, Stevie Wonder is being prepped to hit the stage. Other highlights (at least via television broadcast) through the day have been Will Smith, Madonna, Jay-Z, R.E.M., The Black Eyed Peas, and Dave Matthews Band.

In Austin, like in many parts of the world, there is a viewing party happening at Auditorium Shores, a park near downtown. While I was there, unfortunately, attendance was pretty poor. Nevertheless, here are some moments from Live 8 @ Auditorium Shores, today:

Too bad the viewing parties aren't showing the BBC feed. MTV's coverage was shameful.
