Get Well, Dan Mirvish

Dan Mirvish has been a friend and supporter of SXSW since the very early days. He helped start Slamdance around the same time our festival began, and there has been a bond through the years. I last saw Dan at Park City in 2004, and he was his normal gentle, kind self (and wore a variety of his trademark hats). He's truly one of the biggest advocates of American independent film over the last 15 years. Whether it was from starting Slamdance to his recent bid to change Oscar rules over musicals, he's full of passion and, best of all, a charming spirit.

I bring this all up because Dan recently suffered a horrible tragedy. He had a terrible fall at his home and wound up breaking bones and reportedly losing 40% of his blood. He's recovering now, but it's going to be a long and painful process.

The folks at Film Threat have created an online space for well-wishers to wish Dan well. Visit this space for the Film Threat tribute to Dan. If you've ever even briefly met Dan, he surely had a postive impact on you.

Get well, Dan Mirvish.
