Countdown to 'Reel Paradise' Part Three

Today is the day. After a successful festival run, including Sundance and SXSW, Steve James' documentary Reel Paradise opens today at The IFC Center in New York.

The reviews are in, and they are really positive...

The New York Times says:
"'Reel Paradise' is a deliberately untidy, open-ended, thoroughly absorbing chronicle that lets the lives of its characters spill across the screen without editorializing."

The Hollywood Reporter says:
"As a portrait of a quirky American family and a study of competing cultural values, it's an engrossing and often very funny tale."

Variety says:
"Although it will most readily appeal to cinephiles, who will get off on the depiction of unjaded audiences responding directly to the magic of motion pictures, Steve James' study of an American family living in an exotic location offers sufficient reality-based incident and ponderable cultural issues to attract curious audiences..."

Film Threat says:
"Without romanticizing the experience, the documentary captures the exploration, excitement and frustration of an independent film guru's family's last month after a year of life in another culture. James uses his thoughtful observation to create a portrait of a family that sort of adapted and sort of refused to adapt to a new way of life."
