(Every time I've attended BNAT, taking a break outside is not only welcome but surreal. As the audience spills out to the sidewalk for a few minutes of fresh air, the Austin late-night club-hoppers walked by wondering why the hell we look so tired and disheveled.)

(Filmmaker Eli Roth, right, is an Austin favorite and comes to BNAT every year. After dawn, he gave away sneak peek DVDs of his upcoming horror film, Hostel. Coming to town with him is girlfriend and Hostel co-star Barbara Nedeljakova. Hostel will be in theaters on January 6, and it's a great time.)

(Here I am at the end of the marathon with Alamo owner Tim League. I feel (and look) like a train wreck on 40 minutes of sleep. Tim, on the other hand, is a real pro and manages to stay up and on top of things. As we exited the theater, our parting gift was a complimentary Atari Flashback game console. Each of us received our very own, with vintage games like "Pitfall!," "Centipede," and more loaded and ready. Photo by some helpful guy.)
