The more I think about it, the more I find myself a fan of Alfonso Cuaron's Children of Men. And, one of the moments that had my jaw drop during the film was that first, continuous (one-take) attack on the van carrying our heroes down a country road (I have my theories that the film's other one-take action sequence, in the film's climax, actually features a cut in there somewhere). Without a single edit, director Cuaron was able to capture an intensely explosive sequence that was seemingly a headache to rehearse and produce. Courtesy of Michael Tully's blog, I found this Los Angeles Times article which details the equally intense planning stages faced by the film's director and his cinematographer, as they tried to make this excellent sequence come alive. This is the kind of exercise film school classes will use as a reference someday.
