Unknown 'Truth' (To Me)

Through the magical addiction that is IMDB, I found myself - for the first time - studying the list of producers for Al Gore's documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. Sure to be nominated for the Best Documentary Feature Oscar, I glanced at the list to see if either Gore himself or director Davis Guggenheim were credited as producers on the film. Gore is not, and Guggenheim is an executive producer. So, who else was up for the Oscar?

I thought I was fairly tuned-in, but this all somehow blew past me. It may be old news to some, but I had never fully realized... first of all, Quentin Tarantino's longtime producer, Lawrence Bender, is one of the group. In addition to that, Larry (Curb Your Enthusiasm) David's wife, Laurie, is also a producer on the film. Much earlier, she produced David's failed attempt at feature-film stardom, Sour Grapes. That's not all: the other producer is Scott Burns, also known as the writer/director of the upcoming Picturehouse narrative release, The Half Life of Timofey Berezin (starring Paddy Considine and Radha Mitchell), and screenwriter of the third Jason Bourne film (this summer's The Bourne Ultimatum). Speaking of Picturehouse, An Inconvenient Truth director Davis Guggenheim is next directing soccer-saga Gracie, for the distributor. That film (due in June) is loosely based on his wife, actress Elisabeth Shue. I only share all this, in the chance that someone else out there was unaware like me.

If An Inconvenient Truth does indeed win the Oscar it will surely be nominated for, Gore may not get a trophy personally, but it appears the rewards will have an impact throughout the entertainment business.
