Summer Classic Series Returns @ the Paramount

One of the best Austin summer traditions around, is the "Summer Classic Film Series" at the beautiful Paramount Theatre. Curated with a wise eye (and often in themed double-features), and unleashing masterful films on a massive big screen, it doesn't get much better for movie buffs who wanna gorge on a marathon of classics all summer. The 2007 series is already underway, but continues through September. This week, for example, features one of my childhood favorites: John Huston's thrilling and engaging The Man Who Would Be King. There are plenty more to follow, and here are my picks for must-see attractions:

June 12, 13 - Nick & Nora: The Thin Man and After the Thin Man

June 26, 27 - Essential Altman: McCabe & Mrs. Miller and Brewster McCloud

June 28, 29 - Vintage Scorsese: Mean Streets and Taxi Driver

July 6, 8 - Classic Crime: White Heat and Bonnie & Clyde

July 14, 15 - Redford and Newman: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting

July 16, 17 - Sidney Poitier Night: A Raisin in the Sun and In The Heat of the Night

July 21, 22 - Cary Grant Night: Arsenic & Old Lace and The Talk of the Town

August 1, 3 - Sci-Fi Novels Onto Film: Fahrenheit 451 and Slaughterhouse-Five

August 16, 17 - Two By Truffaut: The 400 Blows and Jules and Jim

August 24 - Tron in 70mm

September 6, 7 - Army of Shadows

Oh, and one of the best parts of the whole thing: Tickets are a mere $7 for both films each evening. That's pretty great.
