"New Talkies" Fest Coming to IFC Center

While you were watching SXSWclick finalists on your new iPhone, the folks at IFC have announced a mini-fest to occur in late August and early September, at New York's IFC Center. On the heels of announcing that IFC First Take had acquired distribution rights to Joe Swanberg's Hannah Takes the Stairs, today comes news that Hannah will help launch an event dubbed "The New Talkies: Generation DIY." Things will kick off on August 22 with the unveiling of Hannah, and roll along for the next two weeks to include screenings of Swanberg's first two features - Kissing on the Mouth and LOL - as well as acclaimed work from Andrew Bujalski, Aaron Katz, the Duplass Brothers, and Frank V. Ross. Katz will be onhand not only for screenings of his terrific 2006 debut, Dance Party, USA, but also a weeklong engagement of his latest film, Quiet City.

All of these filmmakers, as it has been noted, fall into the world called "mumblecore." Most of them have made big international news since SXSW 2007, for their collaborative filmmaking techniques. More info at indieWIRE.
