UPDATED AGAIN - 7/15/07: More information, theories, and web sites on my latest update.

Those of us who have seen Transformers, and made it in time for the trailers, no doubt caught a glimpse of the mysterious preview for what looks like some sort of sci-fi destruction epic. There's no title, no stars, just a camcorder's POV of a going-away party interrupted by a city under attack. All we're told is that the film is produced by JJ Abrams (Lost, Alias) and will open on 1-18-08. Today, Cinematical shows us that a Web site has gone live. And, yup, not much else is learned about this unknown film (I couldn't even locate an IMDB listing, which means it DOESN'T EVEN EXIST).

Thanks, Peter! Interesting to see that some people assume it must be a Voltron film, or Gamera.
My bet is Godzilla. Monument destruction, ability to hurl large pieces vast distances, and that yell when things go wrong.

im with megan i tried parasite movie.com and click on cloverfeildand its wierd but u have to follow the code that the orb shows u and it comes up with some wierd movie that sais we only have till august 1st!
after the video another game type flash animation comes up where you can turn the dials of both symbols as well as the main dial around the ball. if you click on the star to the far right it shows you a legend that basically explains that the symbols are A - Z this is as far as ive gotten

Does everyone remember that video game called "Rampage". I think it's either Ralph or Lizzie or George that makes "the sound". They said, it sounded like an animal... and remeber how they would go around knockin down buildings? and eating people and detroying everything...
I've never researched JJ Abrams to see if he'd ever do something like that. So, that's just my theory...

this site (ppl say) is linked to the movie somehow both 1-18-08 (cloverfield) and ethan haas is all the hype on the web right now.
According to the post at AintItCool from Harry earlier tonight - JJ sent him a note and NO ONE has found any other sites they have made yet. That unlinks the EthanHaasWasRight site and the movie.
If you make it through all the puzzles on EHWR and mouse-over some of the new stars that appear, you see references to the 1-18-08 movie. They are related.
The owner of the Godzilla name has stated that he is retiring it until 2013. Also, Paramount does not have rights to make any Godzilla flicks.
Look up “Abdul Alhazred.”

ethanhaas.org is another site, registered by Triton Enterprises. They claim to be focused on "improving humanity" or some such nonsense.
Van (from EHWR) and "Abdul" have been posting in the blogosphere and some Cthulhu references are popping up. Triton, sea-related. Cthulhu, also sea-related.
The "demon" between the two girls has been confirmed as a red herring, ie. a false clue. There's nothing there. It's just hair and light post.

I looked up cloverfeild on IMDb and found an entry. Does feel like Godzilla.
Also, check out the IMDB message boards for the movie. Someone posing as Van (from EHWR) has been posting the same type of messages and says the stars will rain down on 1-18-8.
Also, the "parasite" thing has been confirmed as a hoax. Although, I use the term lightly. Very little is really confirmed until after the fact when it comes to Hollywood-generated hype, they'll lie about anything.
If you check the slashfilm link above, you see some pretty good arguments for this being Voltron-related but the Ethan Haas/1-18-08 relationship is pretty strong as well. Where it goes from there ...

But yeah, when I first saw the trailer, and the first time they hear the groan rumble sounds, I thought it sounded A LOT like a strider from half-life. So I got all excited thinking it would be about the seven hour war... But if it had been a half-life teaser, it would've been a lot more obvious. And none of the other websites have anything to do with halflife. Maybe it's that new star trek movie? But that's pretty unlikely too, they wouldn't do it in a handy-cam style if it was star trek.

This is most definitely not the Iron Man movie. There's cast list in place for both movies, the directors and producers are known, they're not related.
JJ Abrams has stated all the Haas propaganda is completely unrelated to Cloverfield movie. However, I know I found a reference to 1-18-08 on the EHWR website, yesterday. I haven't been able to find it since. Could be someone there thought it was funny to mislead the masses.
The "Van" posting over at IMDB has admitted he was just conning everyone and was having fun with it because he does hope to create his own movie(s), someday.
The only site that is really confirmed to be part of this Cloverfield stuff is slusho.jp. Slusho has been one of the codenames for the movie and is a reference to a drink from the second episode of Alias, a piece of JJ Abrams' work.

In the trailer, at one point in the "Well Miss You Rob" poster, all you can see is MISSY. So i went to MISSY.com and it's a pretty weird website with some mentions of japanese/chinese. I am not sure if it is anything but it's a weird website. also you can drag those pics on the 1-18-08 website

ok first off, there is no way this is another godzilla movie, the rights to make one has been withheld until i believe 2013... so ya and also in the picture, im 99% positive it is just a false image, just the females hair in the way.. it is natural for the human mind to see familiar images, such as faces, in what is not really there ;p... and one more thing why is it, if the creature is behind them, they are staring wide-eyed the opposite direction? you honestly think this thing would not have been heard if it was behind them

ok if u dont know cthulu is a mythos or diety and he decended from the stars(even tho it has nothign to do with ethan haas, they always mention sumtin about the stars there). he was banished by the elder gods , but not destroyed, this occured before man existed. As legend goes, man stumbles across relics which unleashes this beast and its fiery minions( possibly the fireballs in trailer?) and it is said that his lair/city was sunk to the bottom of the ocean....rhy'el (or sumtin likethat im to lazy to check how to spell) he is supposedly .. roughly 100 feet tall, squidlike head, talons for feet and hands, stands upright, has tenticles, EXTREMELY intelligent.
Now if u go to the www.slusho.jp and check history(which slusho is related, and was not denied by abrams) it mentions about experiments going on and crap, and also how the ingredients were found at the bottom of the ocean, transforming living things into other????? hence the parasite!!! hahaha that is another theory i just came up with
Tossing games is nothing to do with 1-18-08. I did the Parasite Movie site to cash in - you can see it is registered at GoDaddy like all my other sites. Unfortunately it has back fired, I'm getting too much server traffic and it is costing me a fortune. I'm also constantly maintaining the forums because of dumb arse posters. Only other thing I've found so far is "whatis1-18-08.com", not much, just those words in front of what looks like a starfield.
Godzilla seems to be the obvious candidate, of course, but you're all forgetting that Paramount doesn't own the rights to Godzilla, and Sony has been extremely stingy with them.
And Bobby, the movie being based on the Cthulhu Mythos would be just about the coolest thing ever.
That said, I wouldn't bet a bent penny on it actually happening.

When i saw the trailer in Transformers i was in shock b/c it just seemed so real cuz of the whole video camera view. I guess that it would kind of make sence about the whole Rampage theory but who knows. Whatever it is there making a big deal out of it b/c its showing previews about 6 months b4 it comes out

I agree with AZ, although not quoted exactly in Revelations, there is much reference to the mouth of a lion, fire and brimstone. Given the personal effect from the camcorder, and the end of the world as spoke in Revelations, this would hit the hearts and minds of many. But, thats only if the quote from the preview about a lion is true. If the guy says alive, then, well, Cthulhu has my vote.

Voltron???
First, I have no clue what this movie is about. Second, I do know what it is NOT about, Godzilla. No predominant director or producer is going to come in on a sequel to a critically and financially below average movie. Plus that is just too obvious for JJ Abrams, I'd be very disappointed.
Again, no clue what the movie is about. However, why is it 63 degrees at 12:32 AM in the middle of January in New York (look at the tv during the preview)?? I live in a metropolitan area on the east coast south of New York, where it's warmer, and 63 degrees during the day in January is a heat wave. In over a few decades here I've never seen that at night.
In addition, the quote is "I saw it, it's alive, it's huge." Apple has the trailer to watch over and over, if you still hear "Lion" get a hearing aid or better speakers. Whatever "it" is, no one actually says, but may lines suggest it is an animal. The above guy's line suggests this thing has already been an object of speculation, as if there was some mysterious "thing" that people where already trying to figure out what it is and if it is alive. Just my opinion.

I went to the website 1-18-08.com. If you click go back one page and then go forward one page, you'll notice the pictures shift each time you reload the page. As I was performing this exercise for clues, I had a unexplained page come up for a split second that looked like the pits of hell!! Some freaky shit!
Just to throw something else out.....on the slusho site, there is a word, "libation", in the 'history' section of the website. As I am unfamiliar with the word, I looked it up.......A libation is a drink given or meant for a deity.

After watching Transformers, my brother and I had a conversation about this trailer after we had a few drinks at the bar. What we boiled it down to was this... shouldn't be an alien invasion (Independence Day, War of the Worlds, etc. That would be kinda cliche') thats all but like beating a dead fish. Can't be natural disaster (what would cause the burning head of the statue of liberty fly such a distance, plus all that odd background noise. They've also made movies about every concievable natural disaster.) No way in hell would it be another Godzilla movie, the new one (1998?) with Matthew Broderick was horrible and anyone trying to save face is an idiot. The prospect of a Half-life movie sounds viable. I have heard in the past few years that there was a possible script for it being written. The only thing that I can think of that is not only an original movie idea, and hasn't been done in the last 10 damn years is a movie about the end of the world. Should that be the case, i'll be pissed 'cuz i came up with making a movie about that a long time ago and someone beat me to it! >:P
