VMAs Announced. Why?

MTV Video Music Awards... just when I say I've lost all love, I keep coming back and caring. The VMAs are a hollow shell of what they once were: a platform to recognize truly innovative music videos and a venue for some amazing live performances. Now? It's just following in step with MTV's change as a whole. Which is fine, I guess, but why even continue doing the awards when there are so few videos on MTV in the first place? They should really think about changing it to the MTV Reality and Not-So-Reality Programming Awards. That said, the nominees were announced today for this year's event, scheduled for September 9. There are a couple of surprises: Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." is nominated for "Video of the Year," Peter Bjorn and John are nominated for "Best New Artist," etc. Otherwise, it's a parade of uninspired vids from Fall Out Boy, Akon, Rihanna, and Beyonce. Where have you gone, VMAs? Apparently, to the Palms Casino, where all good MTV shows go to die.
