'My Kid Could Paint That' Trailer

You'd be smart to check out the trailer for Amir Bar-Lev's documentary, My Kid Could Paint That. Sony Pictures Classics will release the A&E IndieFilms co-production on October 5, and consider it highly recommended. The doc (which screens at the Toronto Film Festival next month after a Sundance premiere) is a pretty gripping portrayal of a family under fire, when 4 year-old Maria Olmstead is accused of not painting her artwork, which sells for five and six-figure amounts. Amir's a talented documentary filmmaker, and he "lucked out" when the controversy blew up while he was making a film about the Olmstead clan. I think this doc, which is also highly accessible to a wide range of audiences, stands a chance of being on the shortlist once Oscar nominations come around.

This looks fascinating. I hope it ends up screening theatrically in Ann Arbor or Detroit. (It's almost easier for me to see films theatrically since my Netflix queue is well over 300 movies long and I always have work to do when I'm at home.)
