Michele Ohayon's touching and engrossing SXSW 2007 documentary premiere, Steal a Pencil for Me, will open in theaters starting November 9 in New York and L.A. The nonfiction look at a love affair that transpired during the Holocaust, Ohayon's film is highly recommended. She recently had an interview with indieWIRE, about the making of the film.
While I am not completely without bias, being both a personal fan and a former colleague (Colors Straight Up), I was moved and wildly impressed with Michele Ohayon's new film "Steal A Pencil for Me," which I saw`last night at a pre-release screening. I hope that this truly deserving and entertaining film can make its way through the autumn clutter and find its deserving place. The film is wonderfully shot, brilliantly edited, and filled with the humanity that is Ohayon's signature. Congratulation are also in order to Red Envelope for commissioning this film and supporting its distribution. This movie represents all aspects of the indie film sector at their best. I hope the film does some business so there will be more chances taken like this.
