On Monday night, I took a break from submission-viewing and ventured out to the Texas Union Theater on the University of Texas campus, to see Michelangelo Antonioni's The Passenger on the big screen. The event was part of the ongoing Austin Cinematheque. I'd never seen this "forgotten" classic, and it seemed only more appropriate in the wake of Antonioni's relatively recent passing. What a "wow" experience, a tense anti-thriller. Like Hitchcock, almost. It's a great film, and was a great experience to see it in a theater with 100 (mostly) strangers.

The Austin Cinematheque continues each Monday this month, with Robert Altman's 3 Women on November 19 and Wim Wenders' Paris, Texas on November 26. Did I mention these were free screenings?
