R.E.M. (and more) Booked for SXSW Music Festival

R.E.M., on the eve of the April 1 release of their next studio album, will play the SXSW Music Festival, March 12-16. This is very exciting news. It brings the potential of R.E.M. (one of America's biggest bands) performing in a much more intimate venue than normal. I've seen R.E.M. in concert four times, and it's always in front of 20,000 or so people. Their SXSW gig could likely recall the super-intimate show played by the Beastie Boys at SXSW 2006. Other music acts recently announced to play SXSW 2008, include: My Morning Jacket, Vampire Weekend, The Kills, Mala Rodriguez, Daniel Lanois, Sons & Daughters, Lightspeed Champion, Tech N9ne, Joe Lean and The Jing Jang Jong, Pato Banton, and My Brightest Diamond. Expect many more announcements to come over the next two months.
