Wearing Ferrell

On Saturday night, at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, actor Will Ferrell and director Kent Alterman hosted a screening of their upcoming sports comedy Semi-Pro (an evening presented by Ain't It Cool News and Harry Knowles). As part of the event, in true Alamo and AICN fashion, attendees were required to dress in the 1970s basketball uniform from the film. Here are the participants of the pre-show costume contest (in a photo taken with my phone):

After the screening, Ferrell and Alterman sat down for a Q&A moderated by Knowles. Among the notable Austinites in attendance was real-life sports legend Lance Armstrong. Kent Alterman, a San Antonio native, makes his directorial debut after several years working in development for New Line Cinema, which is how he and Ferrell first united (on the 2003 New Line release, Elf). One New Line release that Ferrell was offered but turned down, he shared on Saturday, was the Owen Wilson role in Wedding Crashers.

Ferrell and Alterman are in the middle of a cross-country campaign for Semi-Pro, which has included live comedy gigs on many stops (there were no stand-up performances in Austin). Ferrell commented that as he's performed his Anchorman character Ron Burgundy on the tour, he's started to think up possible ideas for a potential sequel to that film. Semi-Pro opens February 29.

This is the Alamo's T-shirt company. I'd happily give you mine, but it has my name on it.
