It's been a long time since a successful film soundtrack has spawned a sequel. And, it's even more rare when that soundtrack sequel is made up of tunes that aren't actually in the movie. In the late 1990s, the soundtrack sequel was a big phenomenon because, well, people actually bought albums back then. Films such as Trainspotting, Grosse Pointe Blank, Hackers, Boogie Nights, Romeo + Juliet, and even period-piece Oscar winners like Titanic and Braveheart, all supplied follow-up albums after successful sales demanded it. And, for the most part, these soundtrack sequels contained a bunch of music from the films that did not fit on the original release.

This week, news comes that a soundtrack sequel for the best-selling Juno disc will be made available as an iTunes-only release next week (though you can bet it will be sold in stores eventually if the demand warrants it). The big difference with this release, however, is the fact that almost none of the music on Juno B-Sides: Almost Adopted Songs is heard in the film (as the album title suggests). Will people fork over more cash to hear songs that, as director Jason Reitman puts it, "are all essential members of the Junoverse?"

The first soundtrack was kindof fun, but I'd probably just find out who's on the new one and check them out for mysel-- waitaminute-- did he say "Junoverse?"
