I own a BlackBerry, currently the fourth version I've had. I'm dedicated to it and I prefer it, even over the iPhone. But today's announcement at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, makes a potential believer, even out of me. The price is dropping: an 8GB version will be $199, and the 16GB version will sell for $299. The new phone will use 3G data, which makes it incredibly fast, nearly as fast as WiFi. There will be new blog-enabled applications, allowing for seamless blogging from your phone. Additional applications include service by eBay, the Associated Press, and an Enterprise server (which will be a major blow to BlackBerry's business clients). The iPhone 2.0 comes to stores on July 11, and the biggest competition will be BlackBerry's upcoming Bold phone, also due this summer. For a side-by-side comparison of these two new phones, check out this handy chart created by Portfolio.
Honestly, as someone who has had occasional moments of BlackBerry envy over the past year, yesterday's announcement was on the mark, hitting the major hurdle's I've encountered with the phone: battery, storage, push, web speeds.
The major icing on the cake was the MobileMe news, giving me a way to finallly keep me desktop, laptop and phone all in sync.
Keypad? That's the iPhone's biggest shortcoming, particularly when talking about using your phone for business use.
