This weekend marks the end of Summer 2008 from a Hollywood perspective. It's the last weekend before the rest of America considers the summer to be over, but very few people wanna take the time to discover a "new" release during Labor Day celebrations, so this is it. Universal offers up Death Race, its (kinda) remake of Paul Bartel's 1975 camp classic, Death Race 2000. The original Bartel film is not stellar, but it's great fun. This remake, on the other hand, looks to have had all the soul and style drained from the source material and turned into another Jason Statham action movie. I say just rent the original. It not may be quality cinema, but it's undoubtedly more entertaining than this new film. Take a look at the Death Race 2000 trailer:
