Cannes in Safdie-vision
1

Filmmaking brothers Josh and Benny Safdie attended Cannes this year with their second feature, the great Go Get Some Rosemary, which premiered in the Director's Fortnight section. Prolific and talented short filmmakers, the siblings (and collaborator Alex Kalman) captured many brief South of France moments with their cameras and have shared them with indieWIRE. There are 47 shorts in all, and some are better than others, but watched consecutively they hint at the odd-but-exciting experience that is the Cannes Film Festival. The 47 shorts are introduced by this comment from the filmmakers:

With these small observations from a place and time where most of the humanity exists on a screen in a dark room, we (Alex, Benny and Josh) thought we’d find comfort in our pocket sized cameras. The little bits of people, moments, absurdity, glamor, humor and mistakes are for our albums, but also for those who want to imagine a real place and also a place that once of year becomes home to one of the biggest events in Europe and in the world, especially when talking about film. They are called Buttons.

Here are Parts 1-3, here are Parts 4-6, and here are Parts 7 & 8. Full disclosure: Cinetic is repping Go Get Some Rosemary.
