Coolest Soundtrack of the year... is for 'New Moon?'

I don't think you could find a better "gotta buy the soundtrack" vs. "never gonna see the movie" ratio since the release of Danny Boyle's The Beach (2000), than you can with the upcoming Twilight: New Moon disc. The eagerly-awaited sequel to Twilight (which I think will soon become the "T" in "MTV"), will have no chance of getting me in theaters, but I'm already dedicating $9.99 to get the soundtrack album when it arrives on October 20. When it was reported that Death Cab For Cutie would kick things off with the first single from the soundtrack ("Meet Me On The Equinox"), some eyebrows raised at the thought. Turns out the selection of the emo-pop band was no fluke. The rest of the soundtrack is a pretty slick batch of more brand-new songs by even more impressive acts (a Bon Iver and St. Vincent collaboration? Yes, please). Hell, just a new Thom Yorke solo song is nothing to sneeze at.

Of course, the problem that has plagued movie soundtracks since 1995's Batman Forever (look it up, it's true) is, how many of these songs will actually be in the movie? You'll have to tell me, because I'm not going anywhere near the theater that weekend. Here's the complete tracklisting for the New Moon soundtrack, as reported by Rolling Stone:

1. Death Cab For Cutie – “Meet Me On The Equinox”
2. Band Of Skulls – “Friends”
3. Thom Yorke – “Hearing Damage”
4. Lykke Li – “Possibility”
5. The Killers – “A White Demon Love Song”
6. Anya Marina – “Satellite Heart”
7. Muse – “I Belong To You (New Moon)”
8. Bon Iver and St. Vincent – “Roslyn”
9. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – “Done All Wrong”
10. Hurricane Bells – “Monsters”
11. Sea Wolf – “The Violet Hour”
12. OK Go – “Shooting The Moon”
13. Grizzly Bear – “Slow Life”
14. Editors – “No Sound But The Wind”
15. Alexandre Desplat – “New Moon (The Meadow)”
