SXSW is right around the corner (see you there), which means so is the annual Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards hosted by the Austin Film Society. For the first time in its existence, the Hall of Fame will occur the day before SXSW Opening Night, instead of the same day. This should make it even easier for you to attend both star-studded happenings. I'm excited to check out my first-ever Texas Film Hall of Fame dinner/celebration this year. I was always too busy tending to SXSW matters, which was entirely ironic, considering my involvement in the Austin Film Society. Back in 2000, when Louis Black and Evan Smith began hatching the concept for the TFHOF, I was roped into helping with organizational duties. But, never attended. So, I'll see you there this year.
The ceremony takes place Thursday, March 12 at Austin Studios. Honorees this year include: Dallas star Larry Hagman (inducted by his co-star Linda Gray), Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke (inducted by actor John Cusack), actor/director Billy Bob Thornton (inducted by actor and Alamo so-star Dennis Quaid), plus more. The event will also honor Wes Anderson's Houston-filmed Rushmore with the annual Tiffany & Co. Star of Texas Award. I assume there will be plenty of drinking, eating, and maybe even dancing. I wouldn't know, this will be my first time. Limited tickets are still available at the moment.
