Less than 20 days before SXSW starts, our job as curators/programmers has been altered slightly. Nowadays, we are spokespeople/publishers/travel agents/editors/mail experts, you name it. This weekend, after our weekly Saturday meeting, Jarod and I worked on compiling all of the still photos from each and every film in the festival. Lya worked on editing pages of the catalog. Our catalog designer, Kevin, sent proofs back and forth as we copy-edited the first two sections of the book. Stephanie and Claudette continued to receive film prints, as they've started coming in. The Web schedule launched. Wendy, Hiliary, and the team at High Beam Events started to put the finishing touches on the party schedule, as well as the trade show floor.

This is the time each year, when SXSW planning becomes a machine. Our job, if done properly, is to maintain and manage that machine. We've spent approximately 10 months to get to this point, and if those 10 months were calculated correctly, trouble should be shot. It's become even harder to not look at my BlackBerry or hop online these days. Jarren's patience with that, is wonderful. This weekend was spent on tidying up the house, playing with the dogs, and writing countless synopses for the catalog.

What little free time there was, we caught up on TV shows that had been DVRed. The Office was again on point. 30 Rock, not bad. How I Met Your Mother, a bit weak. I cleaned out some CDs I never listen to anymore, and re-discovered some forgotten gems. Working through the "B's" on my iTunes library, I've found the inherent joy in listening to the Beatles, the Bee Gees, and Blind Faith, back to back. Boy, had I completely neglected just how solid early Bee Gees holds up. If anyone out there only knows them from the disco, Saturday Night Fever days, think again.

As the weekend drew to a close, Jarren and I had a really nice time with a small group of folks, during Sunday dinner at Austin soul food spot, Hoover's. Jamaican Jerk Ribs... awesome. Apple cobbler... undercooked. As we left the restaurant, I looked up at a TV and noticed the NBA All-Star game. Which reminded me of what I know all too well: March Madness is almost here.

I had the pleasure of watching SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER on DVD a few nights ago, and was reminded how much I love it as well, Bee Gees and all.
