Consider me not a fan of Derick Martini's suburb drama, Lymelife (opening this week in limited release). An unoriginal depiction of life for a couple of Long Island families in the very early 1980s, the film is so derivative you wonder how Martini convinced people like Alec Baldwin, Martin Scorsese, and Cynthia Nixon to lend their names to the project. No one really comes out looking good, except for maybe a small but powerful performance by Timothy Hutton (who, coincidentally, broke-out in the similar but much better Ordinary People). Otherwise, this is a severely melted Ice Storm and offers nothing new to the East Coast-dysfunctional-family genre.
