Earlier this week, we announced an exciting distribution plan: FilmBuff is scheduled to release the SXSW premiere, Pelada, on VOD starting in June. This acclaimed soccer documentary will make its debut alongside the World Cup festivities. Pelada has managed a busy Spring festival circuit, with stops at Full Frame, IFF Boston, Newport Beach, and more. We're excited to share it with you, and here are some details from the Hollywood Reporter story on the announcement:
The film, which explores the global obsession with pick-up soccer (called “pelada” in Brazil), had its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in March. The doc follows Luke and Gwendolyn, two former college soccer stars, as they travel from Bolivia to Kenya, from China to Iran, searching for games.
“We hope this movie can be seen as the ‘Endless Summer’ of soccer, a journey around the globe told through the lens of a shared passion,” said “Pelada” co-director Ryan White. “We think soccer players will love its spirit, but the human stories – stories that rarely get told in a world dominated by high-paid athletes – will be an experience that non-soccer fans will connect to just as much.”
FilmBuff, the digital distribution label launched by Cinetic Rights Management in 2007, will debut “Pelada” on cable systems across North America on June 7, then launch it on broadband platforms such as iTunes and Amazon.
