It's wednesday night...
It's wednesday night here in small town Ohio, and our lights are burning. The plane leaves at 9am tomorrow and we've got to start packing sometime. It's all rushing by - so much going on, no time to process. But in about 36 hours, the film that Julia Reichert and I have been working on for the last eight years will have its world premiere in Park City. Dang. I still can't believe they took the film and put it in competition. This is a nearly four hour movie we've made. So when we sent it to the festival, last autumn, we hoped they might like it enough to take pity on us and show it in one side-bar-esque out-of-competition screening. Then Shari Frilot called and casually said the film would be showing in doc competition. Wow. Even more fantastic is the fact that members of every family in the film are coming to be there, to see the reaction to the film and support its launch. And many of the doctors too who are in the film will be there - this means a huge amount to Julia and me, and our friends who helped edit this film. A LION IN THE HOUSE has so much sensitive content, and we've been worrying for years about handling it right - telling the truth but being fair. Plus tell this big and challenging story in the best way possible. So we'll see in a couple of days what we've done. Meanwhile, we have to put aside our exhaustion and keep getting ready. We're both so tired - these last few months have been more work than we've ever done in our lives. We kinda forgot that finishing a four hour film is kinda like finishing two feature films simultaneosly. Anyway, i don't know if this is the stuff of blogging. Where's the dish and the dirt, you ask? Well give me time - i've got to get my feet wet in this new world. but first i've got to find where i put those press kits, and the double stick tape, and the stapler...oh, and the postcards....
