This is Von Trier's eleventh Cannes selection with previous films including the Palme d’Or and Best Actress winner "Dancer in the Dark" and Grand Prix winners "Breaking the Waves" and "Europa." "Melancholia" co-star Charlotte Gainsbourg received the Best Actress award at the 2009 edition of the festival for von Trier’s "Antichrist." The film is described as a "beautiful movie about the end of the world."
