Q1 Sundance Film Festival

The next GDP report will show 4% growth, near total employment, the stock market is nearing its all-time high and the significant decreases in carbon emissions were recorded globally...

Oh wait, damnit, that was in my F'n dreams! Oh well, in the words of a great '90s throwback, "Reality Sucks," but there were still some "highs" of a different sort in the first three months of 2009, so take a break from the real headlines and planning the storming of the AIG building(s) for some good old fashioned momentary escapism. While I'm the main iPOPper for indieWIRE, there are many many (and I do mean mutherfukin many!) photos that don't make it in for one reason or another. Sometimes people are repeated and we try not to do that (though there are exceptions) or just too much time passes and they may seem "old," which is often the case especially at festivals where through all the parties, we're still over-worked stress cases.

So for the next couple of weeks, I'm going to post some iPOP Out-Takes from Q1 festivals and/or parties or whatever the hell grabs me from our very messed up unorganized yet image-rich archive. They'll be in "rough order" from January through March... So chill out, open a can of Pabst and look at some photos from the festival/party circuit where escapism is art! (BTW, we do have a new President thank God!)

Now former Sundance director Geoff Gilmore with Sundance winner Lee Daniels ("Push," now "Precious) with actor Josheph Gordon-Levitt (hot) at the Sundance '09 closing party.

And Lee setting up his cast for their big back stage photo with their best narrative film award...

"Sin Nombre" director Cary Fukunaga won best director this year at the festival. He's also going to be a part of indieWIRE's Apple Talk series at the Apple Store in SoHo on Thursday. Come check it out.

"Sergio" director Greg Barker, producer John Battsek, Julie Goldman (producer), Karen Schmeer (editor), assoc producer Diane Becker at the Sundance closing party. Barker is in the middle, a little messed up on the others other then our dear friend and longtime iW friend/ally/guru Diane....

OK, Paris Hilton is guilty pleasure (and this is actually from '08), but what are blogs for? She was in Park City the previous year for "The Hottie and the Nottie." And somehow I ended up at a dinner in her honor. (I remember the soup was great!)
