Movie Pick: Brick Lane

I have memories of Brick Lane from a year studying in London. We would ride the tube to the South Asian street to taste pungent curries, like edible fireworks. The incendiary tale here is the journey of a Bangladeshi girl, Nazneen, who enters an arranged marriage and moves to England where she has a passionate affair. The visually sumptuous film redeems its predictable beginning with an interesting end. Surprisingly, the most intriguing character in this woman's story by a woman director (Sarah Gavron) is the overbearing cuckholded husband.

i saw this film today. it was the best 'immigrant' film ever. great acting,story line,film work,a lot more people should watch this movie. it is an antidote to the crap hollywood makes.
