Based on reader feedback, I made some changes to my blog. First, I took a scalpel to "Valerie" because some folks assumed that was my name. Henceforth, "Valerie and Her Week of Wonders" will simply be called, "Week of Wonders."

(BTW, I like that the abbreviated name, "WoW," gives a cheeky nod to Stephen Frears' "Sammy and Rosie Get Laid," a formative film for me. This reference should put a smile on your face if you know it.)

Next, I replaced my avatar, which was a still from the film, with my own (Warholized) image. As much as I would love to keep the bangs and the bird, it's just not worth the confusion when people expect to see her, not me!

I went over my original posts and cleaned up some formatting, etc. I am figuring this blog thing out as I go along, and it's still evolving.

It's no coincidence that I report on independent film from downtown Manhattan. Here, we have the highest concentration of arthouse theaters in the country and a community that I love.

You may remember me from the pages of iW when I introduced readers to the burgeoning trends of self-distribution, word-of-mouth screenings, and regional releases a few years back. More recently, I covered the Thessaloniki Film Festival where I got to speak Greek and eat amazing olives.
