April 21, 2008 marked my first post and now, one year later, I’m still happily blogging— trying to nudge open what is often a closed (knees) conversation about the world of film.

Based on reader feedback, I made some changes to my blog. First, I took a scalpel to “Valerie” because some folks assumed that was my name. Henceforth, “Valerie and Her Week of Wonders” will simply be called, “Week of Wonders.”

It’s no coincidence that I report on independent film from downtown Manhattan. Here, we have the highest concentration of arthouse theaters in the country and a community that I love.
You may remember me from the pages of iW when I introduced readers to the burgeoning trends of self-distribution, word-of-mouth screenings, and regional releases a few years back. More recently, I covered the Thessaloniki Film Festival where I got to speak Greek and eat amazing olives.
