Welcome to My Blog

It’s no coincidence that I report on independent film from downtown Manhattan.  Here, we have the highest concentration of arthouse theaters in the country and a community that I love.

You may remember me from the pages of iW when I introduced readers to the burgeoning trends of self-distribution, word-of-mouth screenings, and regional releases a few years back.  More recently, I covered the Thessaloniki Film Festival where I got to speak Greek and eat amazing olives.

I hereby dedicate this space to observations, opinions, and quick-turnaround reporting.  I’m looking forward to getting to know you from your feedback and comments.  Stay tuned!  -Rania

I’m a former film maker.

My first feature was in the dramatic competition at Sundance.  After rewriting my ‘second feature’ script for a long time, I started chopping it up into little segments, shooting it, and posting it on youtube.

It’s a comedy about the life of a neurotic New York City wife/mother/artist who has a high-maintenance husband, an addiction to caffeine, and an over-active inner voice.  So far, the episodes run from 82 seconds to 9 minutes long.  It’s called The Louise Log.

I’d be grateful if you’d check it out.  Though I don’t imagine that it falls into a category you would write about, I’m trying to get the word out beyond my core audience.  Most of the segments have 5 stars and, on various internet sites, their combined number of hits is over 20,000.  Here’s a link to one of the episodes:

I’m sure you know to click on the “watch in high quality” under the right-hand side of the thumbnail screen.  It makes a big difference.  Thank you very much.
