Sad indeed. Incidentally, I recently picked up a used copy and the movie's not bad at all and has a quite wonderful opening. As a kid, the lightness and charm of this action comedy was surely overshadowed by that horrifying villainess-turned-robot sequence.
Guess I was referring to the fact that this is now an image of two people who ended up severely disabled before withering away and dying.
But yeah, IV was bad.

That "villainess-turned-robot sequence" scarred me for life. In fact, at least one scene of each of the first three Superman movies had that effect.
