Recall my post from about a little while ago announcing a new distribution initiative from Sundance, offering new streaming distribution options for all Sundance-stamped films, giving life to buried works that may otherwise go unseen?

Well, it's begun...

This afternoon, the Sundance Institute announced the first set of 13 films supported by the Institute that are for the first time available to rent, download and stream. You can now officially find the films on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu, SundanceNOW and YouTube.

They will be available on Netflix on March 1.

For a full list of titles and where they are available, visit sundance.org/nowplaying.

Films available today include at least two I can immediately identify, given that we've covered them on S&A: Zack Godshall's tragi-comedy Lord Byron, and The Redemption of General Butt Naked, a documentary by directors Eric Strauss and Daniele Anastasio.

We are truly excited for these films to reach the leading digital platforms and storefronts for movies. We created Artist Services so films that have shown at the Sundance Film Festival or been part of our Sundance Institute Labs will have a chance to find their audiences and fan bases. Audiences now have a chance to connect with exciting independent work using the devices and services they already love," said Keri Putnam, Executive Director of Sundance Institute.

Here are all the films currently available for rent or purchase, courtesy of this new initiative from the Sundance Institute:
