Blade

We didn't discuss this much - that new Marvel Blade anime series which premiere on the G4 channel in January, running for 11 successive half-hour episodes every week after its debut.

Harold Perrineau provided the voice of the titular character, the supernatural Daywalker known as Blade, as Marvel promises "more action, terrifying villains and bloodthirsty monsters than you’ve ever seen before."

Official synopsis read:

A master of weaponry with a desire to avenge the death of his mother, Blade finds himself in Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia in an effort to take down the evil villain, Deacon Frost. With vampire hunter Makoto at his side, they will stop at nothing to destroy Existence, a vampire organization with roots deeply embedded in Asia.

I watched the first few episodes of the series, but dropped off; not because I didn't like it; there's just so much to keep up with, that it's not inconceivable that something gets left behind; then again, I suppose if it was must-see TV, I probably would've made more of an effort to stick with it.

How many of you kept up with the series?

If you didn't and would like to visit (or revisit) it, you should know that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Marvel have announced plans to release the Blade Anime series on DVD, on July 31st, in a 2-disc set that will include all 12 episodes and 6 all-new featurettes.

The featurettes will include The Marvel Anime Universe: Blade Re-Awakened, a behind-the-scenes look at how this new take on Blade was developed; Blade: The Vampire-Slayer, which compares Marvel’s Blade with traditional vampire stories; and Special Talk Session: Marvel Anime's Blade and Wolverine - an interview with the creators of the anime series.

You should know that the entire 12-episode season is available (minues the special features) right now, on iTunes and Amazon VOD, if you need to catch up and not have to wait for the DVD. I also assume a Blu-ray package is forthcoming.

Marvel has released a 1-minute clip from the premiere episode, featuring the title character in action:
