The 3rd Annual Dominican Film Festival in New York (DFFNY) kicks off tomorrow, running from June 18th – 22nd, at the Alumni Auditorium at the Columbia University Medical Center, and also at Hall of Fame Theater of the Armory Foundation in Washington Heights, extending the events to two venues this year.

The 2014 festival lineup will feature more than 30 films from the Dominican Republic, as DFFNY continues to grow, and offer a platform for even more Dominican filmmakers. These screenings are intended to take moviegoers on a spectacular era of Dominican filmmaking.

The Dominican Film Festival will also host a series of red carpet premieres, industry panels, and exclusive parties, as part of the 5-day event.

DFFNY will also present a Film Retrospective, celebrating the career of actor and producer Manny Perez.

There is also a new addition to the program, a Photo Exhibition of Juan Fernandez, occurring on June 17, 2014 at Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2014, the festival kicks off with an Opening Night Red Carpet Event for the North East Premiere of the acclaimed film, “Al Sur de la Inocencia” ("To the South of Innocence"), directed by Héctor M. Valdez, starring Dominican popular actors Frank Perozo and Jullieta Rodréguez. The talent will be on hand for Q&A, followed by an after party celebration at El Morocco Night Club.

On Sunday, June 22, 2013, the documentary “Mala Mala” directed by Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini will close out the festival. The director and talent are set to appear for Q&A, followed by an after party at El Morocco Night Club.

Also in the festival’s feature lineup are "Despertar" (by Jose Maria Cabral), "Biodegradable" (by Juan Basanta), "El Gallo" (by Juan Fernández), "Lotoman 3.0" (by Archie López), "De Pez en Cuando" (by Francisco Adolfo Valdez), "Locas y Atrapadas" (by Alfonso Rodriguez), "Nohce de Crco" (by Alan Nadal Piantini), "La Montana" (by Tabare Blanchard and Ivan Herrera), "Duarte, Traicion y Gloria" (Leo Silverio), "Blanco" (Milvin Duran), and "Quien Manda" (Ronni Castill).

A must see event will be "A Conversation with Manny Perez," being held at Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center, and the panel discussion titled “Dominican in the Diaspora," which will feature screenwriters, producers and filmmakers discussing the challenges of being Dominican in the film industry at home and abroad.

Some of the films being shown from this group are “A South Bronx Family” ("Una familia del Sur del Bronx") by Nelson Peña; “Ese Beso” ("The Kiss") by Lia Chapman, “Wash” ("Lavado") by Lowensky Natera, “Hallelujah” by Laura Gómez; “Dahlias; Wild Card” by Sonallii Castillo; and lastly, the acclaimed documentary “The Journey of a Female Comic” directed by Erick M. Crespo and well-known Dominican comedian Kiki Melendez, featuring Isai Morales, Edward James Almost, Maria Cochita Alonzo, Guy Echer and Lupe Ontiveros.

The DFFNY is organized by Cine Art Entertainment Productions, in collaboration with Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (FGDD), The Global Film Festival of the Dominican Republic and the Dominican Film Commission. It has been sponsored by Columbia University Medical Center, Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Dominican Republic Tourism Board, The Armory Foundation, Emblem Health, Univision New York, UniMas NewYork, Univision Radio, Delta Air Line, El Diario La Prensa, Latin Trends Magazine, Barcelo Rum, Dyckman Beers, among others.
