Alphas Malik Yoba

4 - Another SyFy channel TV show for you to binge-watch, if you didn't catch any of it when it aired for 2 seasons, from 2011 to 2012, before it was canceled - Alphas, which Malik Yoba co-starred in, with a guest-starring roster that included Kandyse McClure and Mahershala Ali.

Alphas starred David Strathairn as Dr. Lee Rosen, Malik Yoba as Bill Harken, Warren Christie as Cameron Hicks, Azita Ghanizada as Rachel Pirzad, Ryan Cartwright as Gary Bell and Laura Mennell as Nina Theroux, in a series that followed a clandestine group of ordinary people with superhuman mental and physical abilities, taking on cases the CIA, FBI and Pentagon are unwilling or unable to solve, going head-to-head with many of the criminal "Alphas" hiding among the normal population.

As I recall, Yoba's character's abilities included increased durability, endurance, speed and strength. He was kind of the brawn of the operation. Not that he wasn't smart as well.

24 total episodes await you, so happy binge-watching!

Continuuum is definitely one of the better sci-fi TV shows out right now, happy to see it on Netflix too! I love articles like this one and services like that help me find all these new Netflix shows and movies!

A nice pick of "Continuum", a fairly new & interesting take on Ye Olde Time Travel yarns with layerings of post 9/11 & "Great Recession" viewpoints on who EXACTLY is The Enemy (the "United States Corporate Congress" or the "Terrorist Groups" that can and does terrible things to take on the former) do they even know so, and can anything even be changed at the end of it all? A *far* better show than the bloody terrible "Defiance", which got metric tons more Advertising time and dollars due to its being Produced & Owned by SyFy, whereas the first 2 seasons of "Continuum" were a Canadian Production that SyFy simply purchased the US airing rights to. SyFy is co-financing & producing Season 3, so that will hopefully give it more exposure here in the "Southern North America".

However, that cannot overlook the "X-Men meets Heroes with a dash of '80s Knight Rider/The A-Team 'helping the Little Guy' generic Mutants chased down by Shadowy Figures" retread-upon-retread-of-retreads that was "Alphas". And any show that wastes David Strathairn talents has karmic points taken away starting at the pilot - this *might* have done okay in the Syndication Fields of the mid-to-late 1990s ("Babylon 5", "Star Trek: Deep Space 9" being high points) but with the quality shows that Basic and Premiere-Lite Cable is making such as most of the run of "Burn Notice" on the former (USA) and the BBC-like "Series Run" of "Spartacus" done by Starz, "Alphas" was simply a jar of Weak Sauce past its Expiration Date.

LOVE CONTINUUM (suspension of disbelief aside) and can't wait for ORPHAN BLACK to return.

I really wanted to love ALPHAS but it never happened.

Same here. To me it fell into the 'scientific' grey-haired white guy leading a bunch of 'scientific' characters using their talents to catch badguys/save the world/whatever. I put it in the same box as PERSON OF INTEREST and WAREHOUSE 13 although I DO enjoy W13's kookiness. I may try to give it another chance some time in the future. AGENTS OF SHIELD probably fits in that box also.

One is either slave or free. A free slave? Is that some kind of Oxymoron?

  • Blackman | November 30, 2013 5:48 AM

    maybe he meant Freed Slave?

What's the difference. You are a Free Slave too. You SLAVE at a job you probably can't stand to pay your bills. Research it, most Americans hate their jobs. This includes doctors, attorneys, scientist, professors etc. etc.

How the white woman got her groove back, wait, she had one??

  • Ava | November 28, 2013 4:32 PM

I know this will sound mean but seeing that photo of that White woman's back(side) is putting a damper on my appetite for a Thanksgiving meal.

The story in Continuum is similar to a book by Richard K. Morgan titled "13" that was written about 5 years ago.
