Who's Coming To Dinner, a play by Todd Kreidler based on William Rose's screenplay by the same name, is coming to the stage as a True Color Theater Company production. The play will be directed by Kenny Leon and will run have its run July 10-29 at the Georgia State's Rialto Center.
Mekhi Phifer is slated to star as Dr. John Prentice. Phylicia Rashad will play his mother Mary Prentice.
In the play, Joey Drayton brings Dr. John Prentice, her fiancé, to San Francisco for dinner to meet her affluent parents. Her parents prejudices will be put through the test when they find out that, although a seemingly ideal prospect for their daughter - handsome, intelligent, and internationally-renowned doctor from a respectable family, their daughter's fiance is African-American.
No word on the rest of the cast as of yet.
Phifer was last seen on stage in the Leon-directed/Alicia Keys' Broadway production of Stick Fly.
We last told you that the busy Ms. Rashad will direct the stage production Immediate Family, which will run at the Goodman from June 2 - July 8th.
