Just a few hours ago, Tambay posted an official statement from Wayne Coyne/Flaming Lips about the controversial leaked video 'The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face' featuring Erykah Badu, which has been played over 20,000 times on this site alone; that post has received over 9,000 Facebook *likes*, not to mention its 277 comments so far.
Well, just a couple of hours ago on her official Facebook, Badu had more than a few words to say to Wayne Coyne in response to the video leak.
3:33pm dallas
@waynecoyne then… perhaps, next time u get an occasion to work with an artist who respects your mind/art, you should send at least a ROUGh version of the video u PLAN to release b4 u manipulate or compromise the artist’s brand by desperately releasing a poor excuse for shock and nudity that sends a convoluted message that passes as art( to some).
Even with Window Seat there was a method and thought process involved. I have not one need for publicity . I just love artistic dialogue . And just because an image is shocking does not make it art.
You obviously have a misconception of who I am artistically. I don’t mind that but…
By the way you are an ass.
Yu did everything wrong from the on set .
First:
You showed me a concept of beautiful tasteful imagery( by way of vid text messages) .
I trusted that. I was mistaken.
Then u release an unedited, unapproved version within the next few days.
That all spells 1 thing ,
Self Serving .
When asked what the concept
meant after u explained it , u replied ,”it doesn’t mean anything , I just want to make a great video that everyone is going to watch. “
I understood , because as an artist we all desire that. But we don’t all do it at another artist’s expense .
I attempted to resolve this respectfully by having conversations with u after the release but that too proved to be a poor excuse for art.
From jump,
You begged me to sit in a tub of that other shit and I said naw. I refused to sit in any liquid that was not water. But Out of RESPECT for you and the artist you ‘appear’ to be, I Didn’t wanna kill your concept , wanted u to at least get it out of your head . After all, u spent your dough on studio , trip to Dallas etc.. Sooo, I invited Nayrok , my lil sis and artist, who is much more liberal ,to be subject of those other disturbing (to me ) scenes . I told u from jump that I believed your concept to be disturbing. But would give your edit a chance.
You then said u would take my shots ( in clear water/ fully covered parts -seemed harmless enough) and Nayrok’s part ( which I was not present for but saw the photos and a sample scene of cornstarch dripping ) and edit them together along with cosmic, green screen images ( which no one saw) then would show me the edit. .
Instead, U disrespected me by releasing pics and rough vid on the internet without my approval. (Contract breech )
That is equivalent to putting out a security camera’s images of me changing in the fitting room.
I never would have approved that tasteless, meaningless, shock motivated video .
Our art is a reflection of who we are . I have no connection to those images shot in their raw version. I was interested in seeing an amazing edit that would perhaps change or alter my thoughts . Never happened .
You also did the same thing with the song itself which displays crappy “rough “vocals by me . I let it go , perhaps iiiii was missing something, I thought.
I Should have followed my first mind back in studio when recording the vocals “your way”.
( Red flag.) It was uncomfortable.
For that I am at fault .
Consequently, brother, As a human I am disgusted with your what appears to be desperation and poor execution. And disregard for others . As a director I am unimpressed . As a sociologist I understand your type. As your fellow artist I am uninspired. As a woman I feel violated and underestimated.
Hope it works out for ya ,Wayne.
Really i could give a shit less.
Still love your live show tho.
And , you’re welcomed.
Lesson learned .
By the way I have guested in very few videos. But I have always been given the opportunity to see the edit and contribute to it when my roll is substantial. Not this time .
I guess u feel it better to apologize than ask for permission and be refused . Hey, Love u man, but your ways are not very nice .
O, And on behalf of all the artists u have manipulated or plan to manipulate, find another way .
These things have been said out of necessity.
And if you don’t like it
you can KiSS MY Glittery ASS .
O and Nayrok told me to tell u to kiss her ass too .
Almost forgot.
Peace
Ms. Badu
Needless to say, she's not happy. At least her reply provides some insight to many of you who were none to pleased and/or concerned by the video's explicitness. But, as the saying goes, "there's three sides to the story."
I have a feeling we'll hear back from one of the camps soon enough.

Like the the top best website clich here high taste from France, and cheap to take you into the longchamp the world.Luxury experience longchamp bags, come the longchamp official website to specify the longchamp bags airport duty-free shops, site super longchamp2012 new. longchampsbagssale I believe a lot of MM like Longchamp bag, there are a lot of advantages of this package: rich color, stylebag from small to large bag, star effect, the price of civilians affinity, waterproof fabric, design a casual fashion, low-key temperament.

Even if we do excuse the video, what about that SONG? That song sounds like it should be a horror movie soundtrack. It's very unsettling.

It goes to show that people will give anything a pass if they like the source. Erykah has already claimed that her first album was written when she was in a phase, she has abandoned that many moons ago, but people are holding on. She's a regular industry ho, making porn. I don't expect anything of high quality from her. Stop pretending she's other than that and maybe you'll appreciate something she does when it surpasses your expectations.
T'Challa | June 7, 2012 7:50 PM
If the video is tasteless, Erykah, then your sister must be tasteless too.. it's inconceivable that she couldn't see how her dancing around covered in semen, while slapping her a$$ for Massa's enjoyment wouldn't be taken badly..

First I haven't seen the video so I won't comment on that part of the issue.
Second here she clearly lays out her perspective of what happened...I wasn't there so I don't know BUT clearly she felt that her contribution was dismissed for sake of the dollar and notoriety.
Third SHE DISMISSED her red flags, it didn't feel comfortable, and she allowed someone else to take control of her actions. We've ALL done it at one time or another even those whose posts are so viseral. Unfortunately it happens across the board even with seasoned artists but the next artistically inclined director may not get an opportunitywork sooth her because of it....which is sad.
Four some of the posts are juvenile at best and just plain ignorant...what happened to thoughtful debate most were personal and uncalled for. Jealousy and envy are the birch of the self entitled

Obviously I haven't been paying attention to media in a while, but would someone kindly explain to me what E. Badu has done to incense the majority black audience? The kind of vitriol I'm seeing toward her on the issue sounds a lot like what you see on prodominently white threads when a black actress appears on one of their prized all white shows with more than one line, and allowed to look attractive instead of frumpy.
troy | June 7, 2012 11:54 AM
Okay almost none of you seem to have ever liked her. Or maybe some of you think these comments will get back to her.
Xi | June 7, 2012 11:40 AM
Maybe she was under the impression that the video would come out looking a lot different from this so called rough cut. Maybe she expected there to be a green screen with skewed images, animation, shooting stars etc? Maybe when the video hit that's what she thought everyone was seeing? I dont think Badu is the type to front. If she makes a mistake, she admits it. But what do I know? For me, her contribution is much greater than this hiccup...much greater than most these day. So I respect and stand by her in all her humaness.

Looks like over the top damage control to me. Like the person that goes ballistic when they are caught shoplifting at WalMart, screaming, shouting, throwing things.
Jeff | June 7, 2012 10:25 AM
Stop with the fake outrage
moriquenda | June 7, 2012 8:14 AM
Wayne Coyne is a pig. He clearly has no respect for women.
Jayson Jay | June 7, 2012 5:32 AM
So let's recap, she chose to do a bucket-naked video and now she mad when it comes out with her looking desperate and bucket-naked.
fandango | June 7, 2012 4:45 AM
Bit of a Streisand if you ask me. She's full of it.
anyhow8868 | June 7, 2012 4:33 AM
neenerneener not having it. this lame a$$ excuse for a lame a$$ has been wannabe irrelevant freakazoid. please put her in the trash bin with rihanna "gotta be famous at all costs though I ain't got a lick of talent". Badhu...get yo a$$ out that tub. go come your hair and take care of yo kids. come back to the art scene when you grow up, get an aesthetic and learn to do more than strip in public with you flabby a$$, 'scuse me while I go rinse my eyes out with lye
Turner | June 7, 2012 12:03 AM
What's up next? Beastiality? Bad dog!
Lauren | June 6, 2012 11:57 PM
So who was at fault for her other stupid naked video? She's craving the attention her older material brought- fully dressed.
sergio | June 6, 2012 11:52 PM
Oh please! Isn't that the same EXACT excuse that Mary J. Blige gave for that chicken wraps Burger King commercial everyone despised. "This was an unfinished work leaked to the media without my approval blah blah blah". In other words "I didn't get the kind of overwhelming positive repsonse I thought I was going to get so it's time to run for cover with a lame excuse" What about the other video of hers when she's walking down the street in Dallas taking off her clothes in public? She didn't have a problem then, but now she does with this one.
the black police | June 6, 2012 11:35 PM
Is she dumb?! Didnt she film those parts?! What did she think they were for? Oh please, I call bullshit.
Logic | June 6, 2012 10:56 PM
I fully believe what she wrote. Even more so now that I've seen what Wayne Coyne's been up to on twitter in response to this. He's a childish ass.
Mendina | June 6, 2012 10:34 PM
Come on Now Erykah, you appeared to be DEFENDING The video Sunday night on twitter. Eben said that the glitter part was your favorite scene!!!
Jeni | June 6, 2012 10:27 PM
Gotta love Erykah.
"Kiss my glittery a--" is the phrase of the year.
Afterparty Jones | June 6, 2012 10:08 PM
"that passes as art( to some)"
How could this pass for art?
Let's examine:
The camera-work tells a story about the human body. The video confronts the viewer's attitudes from different angles: the body's banal everyday in bathwater, to elevation to cosmic heights with glitter, to raw feminine menstrual beauty in red, to seductive sexy and slimy.
Shame they don't take it down and give Ms. Badu an edit, if she'd even decide she'd like it re-released.
LeonRaymond | June 6, 2012 10:06 PM
First Let me get out the way the fact that I detest her from top to bottom, but some one of her stature you would think that she would be behind the camera and check every take, why did she just place her self in the trust of this guy any way, -she's done enough videos to know better, and why didn't she sign final cut contract, does she have little to no power what so ever. And why didn't she have her own editor on the room when this was being cut to sort of babysit or in case Micro manage the entire edit. If she is the big huge star she says she is and that some of you make her out to be this video situation should have never went down this way.
Some thing is fishy, some thing just don't add up, and why not get a better video director from jump some one who could take her vision and make it grandiose that way she may have envisioned!!!
Miles Ellison | June 6, 2012 9:44 PM
I guess it was just porn after all.
ms.jjstone | June 6, 2012 9:34 PM
Ms. Badu summed up my thoughts exactly of the video.
Geoff | June 6, 2012 8:57 PM
I wanna know why she's responding negatively so late. Also, she clearly didn't know who she was dealing with when she decided to create with Wayne Coyne. He and the Lips have always been about pushing boundaries.
other song | June 6, 2012 8:39 PM
where are all the "this represents sun and air and semen" commentators now? Silly song, even worse video.
B | June 6, 2012 8:26 PM
Although part of me thinks she posted this statement just to save face, I am in fact quite glad she posted it. I detested that video, and even though I didn't hold that video against her, it did disappoint me. So, as a Badu stan, I appreciate her response.
