Screening out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival is an Australian musical drama titled The Sapphires, which is inspired by the real-life story of a soul singing quartet comprised of 4 Aborigine women (all sisters) who were the heroines of a play in which writer/director Wayne Blair was an actor in 2005.

Leading independent film sales company, Wide Management, has picked up 2 new projects to represent and shop at the Marché du Film at Cannes: Senegalese director Alain Gomis' 3rd feature film titled Aujourd'hui (or Today in English, also known as Tey), which premiered at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February; and Patrik-Ian Polk's The Skinny - Polk being the director of LGBT-themed indie films Noah's Arc:Jumping the Broom and Punks, as well as the creator of the Noah's Arc series for the Logo network.

Dorian Missick has joined the cast of Syfy's third season of Haven, based on Stephen King's novel titled The Colorado Kid, about a former FBI agent (Audrey Parker), who unravels the town's many secrets after she becomes a cop. Emily Rose will return as the lead of Audrey Parker.

In 2004, I remember hearing about the Guy Hanks and Marvin Miller writing program at USC School of Cinematic Arts. However, I never pursued my curiosity about the benefits of the program, yet I was intrigued.
