I'm totally convinced that web series are increasingly the way to go to see more realistic, honest or simply just different (i.e.eccentric and quirky) portrayals of black folks. Hollywood is too corrupted, small minded and firmly stuck in their ways to even attempt that. Issa Rae could tell you stories about how Hollywood has treated her or has been utterly clueless when she pitched them her Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl as a TV series.

Her last project, The OWLs (Older Wiser Lesbians) now on home video, Cheryl Dunye's follow-up to that feature film, a romantic comedy titled Mommy Is Coming, made its debut at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival in the Panorama section in February, which is when we last wrote about the work.

The 71-minute documentary Indochina, Traces of A Mother by Beninese filmmaker Idrissou Mora-Kpai, follows Afro-Vietnamese orphan decendants, now in their 50's, of Vietnamese mothers and West African fathers - Senegalese riflemen or tirailleurs sénégalais - who were recruited by the French during the French Indochina War, which took place in southeast Asia's French colony from December 19, 1946 and which lasted until August 1, 1954.

Well, that was fast Variance Films... the marketing campaign has begun for Spike Lee's Red Hook Summer, which, as I posted not-too long ago, was picked up by the upstart distribution company for an August 10th release.
