Several friends have asked me how they should speak to their child about Trayvon Martin's murder. It is an honor to be asked such a question. I do not have children. And, I'm someone who refuses to raise a black child (male, especially) in the United States. Too risky. When I travel, I observe black male children. I watch their body language, their confidence level, the tenor of their conversations, as a way to counter-balance what I see in my Brooklyn neighborhood.

I'm working on a short list of *black feature films* that could be making their debuts at the 2012 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, and I hope to have that posted in the next 24 hours, since the official selection announcement is scheduled to be made on the 19th (today's the 17th).

A film that was ahead of its time when it was release in 1973, and, quite frankly, is still very much so today, in 2012; and thus, I don't feel it's really received the kind of recognition it deserves.
