Regina King has expressed her desire to portray the first Black New York Congresswoman and Presidential Candidate Shirley Chisholm previously. A few years ago, she mentioned it on an interview with Kam Williams and in THIS interview this past January, in which The Daily Beast states that King, "hopes to one day pen and star in a docudrama." Most recently, Kerry Washington mentioned Regina King and the project in THIS interview with Kam Williams just last month, where Washington says, "And I just heard that Regina King is doing Shirley Chisholm, perfect casting, which is another story that has to be told."

Wonderful news! Extremely pleased to see this film - one of my Sundance 2011 favorites - finally get an official release; a theatrical one too, which it so deserves, if only because of Bradford Young's extraodinary cinematography; easily one of the best shot films I saw during all of 2011.
