First, a quick recap... It's the shark thriller titled Dark Tide, in which Ms Berry stars as a diving instructor who is "drawn to close encounters with the White Sharks that rule the shores of the isolated island on which she lives." Olivier plays Halle’s husband in the movie, who “chooses ambition over his wife’s safety in a split second encounter with the jaws of death, leading to their marriage nearly falling apart.”

Danny Glover will lend his acting talents to another indie feature project; this one sitlted Supremacy, which he'll star in alongside Joe Anderson (The Grey, The River) and Dawn Olivieri (she plays Don Cheadle's ex-wife on Showtime's House Of Lies).

Ok, seriously folks, by now, I would assume that MOST of you, if not all, have seen The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975; since its Sundance 2011 debut, screenings of the film have occurred around the country; it's been on DVD since early December; it's been available for streaming on Netflix and Amazon.

It's called 96 Minutes, a film we initially profiled back in March 2011, soon after its debut at the SXSW Film Festival, which Evan Ross (who won a breakthrough performance award at SXSW for his work in the film) and David Oyelowo both co-star in.

I was sorry to have missed this at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival (which all seems like a distant memory to me now, with another festival looming, which I leave for a week from today). It was one of the films I really wanted to check out. The trailer definitely promised something worthwhile.

The short narrative feature Grace, which marks Salli Richardson-Whitfield's directorial debut, makes its premiere tomorrow Friday 2/10 at the Pan African Film Festival. Grace, about a white woman in an isolated cabin who confronts a black male stranger, is written by Richardson-Whitfield and Ava Duvernay.

Chicken & Egg Pictures - the award-winning hybrid film fund and non-profit production company dedicated to supporting women filmmakers - announced its 2012 Open Call grant recipients today, and it's quite the international list of projects, including stories set in Africa like this one which immediately got my attention.
