New Zealand father & son filmmaking-team Lance and James Morcan recently told New Zealand website Voxy that their long-planned biopic on South African weightlifter Precious McKenzie, The Precious One, is still on hold, due to financial constraints. If, and when, the film is ever made, actors Kevin Hart and Tatyana Ali will play the roles of McKenzie and his wife, Elizabeth. The Morcans have secured the directorial services of Roger Spottiswoode (Shoot To Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies), and have signed on actors Nick Nolte, Kim Basinger, and John Rhys-Davies, as well. Lord Of The Rings Executive Producer Mark Ordesky is to co-produce.

Rev. Al Sharpton Honors Tyler Perry, Calls His Critics "Proper Negroes"

Tyler Perry was honored by Civil Rights Activist Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network this past Wednesday. According to The Washington Post, Sharpton lashed out at the critics of the highest-earning man in Hollywood, calling them "proper negroes" "who don't really understand regular black folk". Sharpton praised Perry for providing work to under appreciated actors in Hollywood and for creating his own empire.

Antoine Fuqua's Boxing Drama "'Southpaw" Starring Eminem Revived By MGM

We last announced Dreamworks pulled the plug on this project back in August. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures Entertainment now plans to distribute the new MGM's boxing drama Southpaw starring Eminem. The film, previously set up by Dreamworks, is back on path and still set to be directed by Antoine Fuqua. The film, written by Eminem and Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, tells the story of a left-handed welterweight boxer who becomes a champion before undergoing a tragedy, and later becomes determined to make a comeback.
