The film also won the festival's 1.5 million yen ($19,400) prize.

In two weekends time, the L.A. Rebellion retrospective at the at the Hammer Museum, hosted by the UCLA Film & Television Archive, is shaping up to be the year’s most important series. Sadly, the competition is weak these days (what with the New Beverly devoted to grindhouse spanophilia, American Cinematheque having lost all of its programming chi and the LACMA film program having been decapitated – sorry times for L.A. cinephiles).

O.K., so it didn't exactly set box office records on fire, taking in $60.7 million worldwide so far. Not exactly Transformers numbers, but, then again, how many films even do that worldwide? So $60.7 million, all things considered, is nothing to sneeze at.

I don't believe the budget for George Lucas' Tuskegee Airmen film, Red Tails has long been public/easily accessible info. This is the first I'm hearing it, which obviously doesn't mean that it's the first time it's been mentioned publicly.

I know, I know. Of course I could have picked a better photo for our pal Forest instead of this one from Battlefield Earth. It's the one film I KNOW he must regret making more than any other film. But it just goes to show you that even the greatest of actors, even Oscar-winning ones like Forest, have a film or two they would rather forget. Actors are just like us. We're human. We all make mistakes.

I'm surprised we have yet to profile this documentary on the site. Fambul Tok, directed by Sara Terry and produced by Terry, Rory Kennedy and Libby Hoffman, is a story about victims of the Sierra Leon war conflict, who learn to forgive and live amongst each other after being forced by rebels to commit atrocious acts against members of their own families and community.

A couple months back Tambay posted a preview snippet of the documentary by Nev N. titled Reflections Unheard: Black Women in Civil Rights. Given the strong response, the director is set on completing the film but she needs your help; she’s currently fundraising hoping to raise $20,000. Check out the film's indiegogo page to contribute to the cause and read a brief synopsis of the documentary, followed by the director's pitch video (below)...
