Hey Bostonians... if you're not at all familiar with the work of black British filmmaker Isaac Julien, (we've highlighted some of his work on S&A, notably his allegorical snapshot of late 1970s London, Young Soul Rebels, which co-starred a young Sophie Okonedo, and the poetic documentary Looking For Langston), here's your chance to become familiar with the films of this contempary of other black British filmmakers previously discussed on S&A - notably John Akomfrah and Menelik Shabazz.

Scrubbing through the list of titles that came with this morning's announcement of the Slamdance 2012 lineup as promised, I came across this... a feature film titled Welcome To Pine Hill, made in collaboration with the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective, a group which writer/director Keith Miller (a name I wasn't familiar with before today) belongs.

I've always been a fervent supporter of President Obama and when he revealed back in 2008 his love of HBO's The Wire, his stock increased.  After all, it wasn't a "safe" pick to name and, in my opinion, it conveyed a certain edginess.
