Considered to be China's top film event (the country's equivalent of Oscars), the annual China Golden Rooster Awards (named for the year of the Rooster) were handed out late last month at the Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival, as I just learned, and a film we've previously covered on S&A picked up a trophy in a major category!

It's already scheduled for an initial limited December 16th release in London, playing at 7 theaters (including 1 in Sheffield and another in Manchester); I just learned that several more cinemas and play dates have been confirmed for Carol Morley's Dreams of a Life, which starred Zawe Ashton (Emmanuel's got an interview with her coming up, so look out for that).

Feels like we're seeing a lot of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson lately, both on screen and in print/pixels; like maybe he needs to take a short break. Or is it just me? 5 or 6 movies since 2010, plus another 5 or 6 he's attached to star in from now through 2012. And they certainly haven't all been (nor guaranteed to be) winners.

Now that it was offically announced that super A-Lister producer Brian Grazer - co-founder and co-owner of Imagine Entertainment with Ron Howard - will produce next year's 84th annual Oscar show, replacing Brett Ratner (who was fired by the Academy but claimed he resigned as a cover), this question has been going around: will Eddie Murphy come back after he quit as host of the show, in the wake of Ratner's leaving?

Oh-oh... this doesn't look good for Don Cheadle's long-in-development project, which he's been shopping around for financing for what seems like a really long time. 2 films based on Miles Davis' life might be seen as overkill, meaning only one of them may see the light of day.

From Dennis Dortch, writer and director of 2008's A Good Day To be Black & Sexy (I suspect a lot of you are familiar, even though it's been some time since Dennis' name, and/or the name of his feature film debut have been mentioned here on S&A).
